From Field Notes to Conservation Action: Koloina’s Research on Critically Endangered Diademed Sifakas

Through a TDARFAC conservation grant, Malagasy graduate student Koloina Rakotoarivelo is investigating how critically endangered diademed sifakas use fragmented and continuous forests in Tsinjoarivo. Her research combines behavioral observations, habitat assessments, and community engagement to generate data that can directly inform habitat restoration and conservation planning. Beyond the science, Koloina has trained local collaborators, conducted conservation outreach with secondary school students, and demonstrated the vital role that Malagasy researchers play in leading the future of conservation in Madagascar.
